Europe is by far the region of the world to which France exports most of its products (66% in Europe, but only 18.4% outside the eurozone), between 2010 and 2014 on average, according to UNCTADstat data. This is followed by Asia (16.5%), the Americas (9.5%), Africa (6.6%) and Oceania (1.2%).
In terms of countries, exports to Germany account for 16.4% of total exports, followed by those to Italy with 7.6%. Outside the euro zone, the United Kingdom accounts for 6.8%, a significant share that could prove problematic if Brexit ultimately results in higher customs duties. The United States (6.0%) and China (3.4%) are also two destinations of choice for French exporters. However, it should be noted that Japan and the major emerging countries, considered to be high-potential markets, such as Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa, each account for less than 2% of French exports.
