In an opinion piece published in December 2024 in Magazine des Professions Financières on new workplace relationships, Mathieu Obertelli discusses the impact of remote working on the office real estate market in France and, more broadly, on regional dynamics. The economist at BSI Economics shows how, since the health crisis, investment in new workspaces has collapsed, while companies, by adopting teleworking more widely, are revising their space requirements downwards. The article also highlights the role played by rising interest rates and points to regional paradoxes: in the Paris region, for example, office rentals remain very active despite a high proportion of employees working from home. Beyond the simple « revolution » that has been announced, the author sees this as a profound transformation of the way we work, which is changing demand for real estate and raising questions about the development of our cities and regions.
